Lessons:
$40/ 30 minute private or 45 minute small group
With over 20
years experience as a coach, trainer, clinician and judge,
you are in good hands. We focus on developing a working
relationship between you and your horse that is based on
respect and understanding. Lessons are available for
english, western, and barrel racing. Bring your own horse
or ride one of ours. We have several wonderful, safe,
quiet, patient lesson horses for beginners or timid riders
and a handful of other horses available that can help more
accomplished riders to fine tune their aides, seat, and
skills and develop more sophistication in their riding. All
you need to get started is a pair of boots with a heel. I
have helmets you may borrow to get you started.

Training: $650/ month
Training
includes full board with excellent care. Horses are ridden
five to seven days a week. Often daily rides begin or end with a
short trail ride where the horses relax and work on putting
the skills they have learned to good use.
I believe in short training
sessions, sometimes several a day, rather than long
marathon sessions that leave the horse (and me!)
exhausted and frustrated. I live by the great Tom
Dorrance's statement to "make the right things easy and
the wrong things hard". It is important for the
horse to want to work with me as a team.
All of my horses start with the
same solid foundation regardless of the discipline they
will eventually assume. I begin in the round pen, where
my relationship with the horse is established. One
of the best
compliment I ever received was that I am "firm but
fair". I have very high expectations for my horses and
my students, but will do everything in my power to help
them to understand, reach, and exceed their goals.
After we begin with round pen work we move on to riding,
focusing on developing a quiet, responsive, cooperative, flexible horse.
* * * NEW SERVICE: Spring
Conditioning! This is designed for
finished horses who do not need training, they just need
to be fitted and cleaned up so they are ready to go in
the spring when you are! For $525/month
your horse will be exercised 5 days a week including
lunging, time on the hotwalker, long trotting, trail
riding, and daily grooming. Consider combining
this with my body clipping special of $95/horse for
horses that are in a program, and you will be ready to
hit the road showing!
Clinics: prices vary
($225/person/weekend at our facility for groups of 5+,
other options available upon request)

Clinics are one of my favorite
services to provide. Students can expect a great
deal of one-on-one time with topics focused on riders'
needs. You are welcome to come to one of my scheduled
clinics, usually once a month, or you can get a few of
your friends together and design your own clinic at my
place or yours. Prices are reasonable, and we
always have a great time laughing and learning.
Videos will be taken throughout the day, and reviewed
during breaks. We also enjoy providing a
homemade dinner Saturday night. Riders are welcome
to stay with us or bring a tent or camper.

a freshly body clipped horse!

Performance and Race Horse
Rehabilitation, Retreat, and Retirement:
It is quite
common for rigorous training and competition to take
its toll on equine health, sometimes resulting in
injuries or procedures that require rehabilitation.
At Oakwood Manor we believe that the care of your
horse receives during rehabilitation often
determines how successful their return to
competition will be. Complete recovery is our
ultimate goal. Whether your horse is recovering
from surgery, injury, illness, requires a special
nutritional & exercise program, needing to be
reconditioned, or has just earned some R& R, we will
design a program in coordination with owner,
veterinarian, farrier, and trainer for your horse’s
specific needs.
A successful
rehabilitation plan addresses the total horse.
Besides their physical needs, we also focus on
his/her emotional well-being. We provide a
peaceful, calm environment. Our stalls have a great
view with large social stalls matted and heavily
bedded, lighted, fresh water, fans, and feed four
times a day. We have lovely pastures for those who
are allowed turn out.
Our generous
sized arena ensures secure and consistent footing on
a carefully and frequently groomed surface. From
hand walking to conditioning to reconditioning this
allows your equine friend to be sure of their steps.
If you are
planning a vacation or if other responsibilities or
injuries prevent you from riding your horse, we can
provide a special conditioning program designed to
keep your performance horse in shape. We can
incorporate riding, lunging, and turn-out.
